Grocery Store Herb Garden

It happens to me every year. Thanksgiving is around the corner, I am looking fresh herbs and the stores are fresh out! I headed for the local garden centers and home improvement store where the supply was sparse, sad, pricey and not organic. Back at the super market I found a produce guy stocking the live organic herbs and I grabbed one of everything! Took them home and unpacked them to discover large, healthy, organic plants. Twice the size of the potted ones for half the price.

My hope was that they would live until Christmas. To my surprise they are all doing great and here it is January. I did loose the oregano, not sure why. They have been living on the counter next to a south facing window in a self watering pot. This last item was a must if they were to survive my erratic travel schedule. But survive they did and thrive in fact! I used fresh basil on my Keto pizza last night. [That will be a future post}

My new hope is to be harvesting sage for a roast chicken on easter.

Hutch

Bought this adorable county hutch in, of all places, Palm Springs. This is one of my favorite thrifting tricks. Look for what doesn't belong! I find the prettiest antique pieces in Palm Spring because everyone is looking for MCM. My Carrera marble topped dresser was $50 at revivals (my favorite!) and had been there a month. Don't get me wrong...I love mid century modern. I just look where the competition is a bit less fierce. 🔥 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The new house doesn't have a pantry, per se, so this was pressed into action. It will need a new paint job soon but for now is doing a great job of holding {hiding] all the food. Bonus: there is a cutting board built in over the middle drawer. Perfect for excavating the canned food 🥫 shelf. Why is the coconut milk always in the back? As for paint I think i will stick with white, although stripping it down to pine is tempting. Maybe wallpaper in the back there behind the canisters? What would you do

Keto Cocktail | Herbed Arnold Palmer

You can drink on Keto, I repeat, you CAN drink on KETO. The trick is, as with anything keto, to choose wisely.

This is a simple yet lovely summer concoction. Infuse a good quality vodka with lemon peels. Use a LOT of peals. I do this with lemons i get from friends and family [perks of a so cal life!] so they are organic and aren’t coated with wax or whatever crap they put on fruit. Let the vodka/lemon peels sit for a few days.

This can be serves shaken or over ice.

the proportions are

1 part Lemon vodka
1 part strong iced tea
1 part soda water

Optional-sweeten with you favorite sugar substitute
Garnish with herbs of your choice

Tastes like summer in a glass!
